Springtime Dollies

November 12th, 2008

Spring is fast approaching the great lands of Alaska and spring is
synonymous with fishing in Alaska. Many cold dark months have been spent
dreaming about the end of winter, the break-up of ice and the emerging fry from
the many streams across Alaska. Emerging fry in Alaska means feeding frenzies that
can test the nerves of the most seasoned angler. These frenzies occur in many
different types of watersheds but for this article we will focus on estuaries where a
river or creek meets the sea and where Dolly Varden come to feed.

Estuaries throughout Alaska become fish magnets as the snowmelt fills
the rivers. Often times rivers and creeks are tough to fish this time of year because
of this increase in water flow. Inquisitive anglers, who tend to rush the season a bit,
found long ago the opportunities provided by this natural occurrence so vital to the
life cycle of so many fish, birds and other animals residing close to these rivers and
creeks but don’t expect open conversations about these early spring haunts as they
seem to be some of the last remaining secrets among anglers. I do not intend on
giving away any spots in this article but I assure you there are more than enough to
go around in Alaska and some that get little or no pressure from other anglers.

To understand the reasons for the great fishing at these estuaries one
must first learn why. Throughout the summer, salmon move up stream to lay eggs.
These eggs provide the Dollies with much needed protein to survive the long winter
months but that is for another article. These eggs hatch into what is called an
alevin, which is a small salmon with its egg sac still attached. The content of the egg
sac is consumed as they begin to grow into fry. Most of the fry and alevins remain in
the fresh water for a few seasons with the exception of the Chum salmon which
journey to at least the brackish water provided by the estuary where they will reside
until mature enough to journey to the open ocean.

The Snow high in the Southeast Alaska mountains begin to melt in March
through early May, depending on the season. The run-off from this snowmelt
creates higher flow rates within these watersheds causing even more difficulties for
the immature salmon trying to survive. This cycle begins the angling season in
Alaska and anglers should be there to take advantage of this great opportunity. The
action seen at these estuaries are second to none and occur well in advance of the
on-slaught of tourist that flock to Alaska each summer.

Dolly Varden are aggressive and willing to attack anything resembling a
young salmon. Anything from streamers at the end of a fly line to spoons on a
spinning outfit will work great for these tenacious creatures, which are a member of
the char family. My weapon of choice has got to be the fly rod. With a fly the angler
can vary the presentation on every cast. Variations of the presentations will help the
angler entice many more strikes than with a spoon or spinner. Let us look at the
reasons why.

With a spoon or spinner your presentation is pretty much cast and
retrieve. The weight of the spoon or spinner limits your ability to vary your
presentation throughout the retrieve. In order to keep your presentation up in the
water column, where the Dollies are and the bottom feeders aren’t, you must
perform a fast retrieve throughout the presentation. Rests assure you can and will
catch many Dollies in this manner but the fly allows for various presentations even
within the same cast. Here are some of the presentations allowed by the fly.

FAST STRIP: The fast strip retrieve is a good presentation to start with in
your selected estuary or stream. A fast retrieve is performed by completing the cast
and immediately beginning the retrieve with a long strip with the only hesitation
being the brief moment it takes to move your stripping hand up the line. This
retrieve will present the fly on or just below the surface of the water and can entice
some tremendous strikes so be ready and check your nerves at the truck. The
reason this technique is a good one to begin with is that it entices the more
aggressive fish first. These may be the only fish of the many below that will attack a
fast stripped fly on or near the surface. This is important and can allow you more
productive fishing time in one spot. If you were to use one of the following
presentations what you would see is the aggressive fish taking the fly but running
off the less aggressive fish in the process and possibly running those fish to another
area, which could be out of your range even with spinning gear. So keep the less
aggressive fish nearby by targeting the aggressive fish on the surface where there is
little or no competition from below.

PAUSE STRIP: The pause strip is a great retrieve and has really brought
many Dollies to hand. The pause strip retrieve can be performed in many fashions.
One may make two fast strips immediately then pause or one might wait a few
seconds to allow the fly to sink to a certain depth before beginning the pause strip.
Whether fast strip then pause or slow strip three pulls then pause, it is all up to the
angler to try different variations in order to get a strike.

SLOW STRIP: The slow strip is the best finish up retrieve for a certain
spot. In the off chance that the bite slows while using the other strips and variation
of those strips the slow strip just may entice a few more strikes and often times
they can be the largest fish in the area as the same holds true for many of Alaska’s
sport fish as the larger fish will refuse, with good reason, to expend too much
energy chasing a meal that may not even replenish them with the energy burned to
catch them. So, as your nerves begin to settle back to normal and two or three fat
Dollies are in the creel for supper it is time to relax and meticulously cover the area
with the slow strip retrieve. The name is self-explanatory but there are several
variations of the retrieve worth noting. The slow strip retrieve may begin with two
lightning fast strips followed by a countdown then the slow strip that may include a
pause or two on the way in. The important thing is to remember that the majority of
the retrieve should be slow. This allows the fish to decide if it wants to expend the
energy needed to take your presentation, that decision is based on how the fly is
moving through the water. There are many more strips out there to try but these
three and the many variations within can be more than enough to provide many
hours of fish fighting fun
. One question that is brought up in angling circles is which fly line to use.
Well I have to say I personally have refused to allow the many hundreds of fly line
types to interfere with my sanity and so I have one spool of floating and one spool
of sinking. Add a weighted fly or a split shot to either the floating or the sinking line
and you have several different presentations at your disposal. Now having said that
there are times when a special situation presents itself and you may be forced to
purchase a special line for that particular circumstance. Often times, in those
situations, you may be introduced to a line you did not even know existed and
unless you are going to fish that same locale later on you may never find a reason to
purchase that line again but you know its out there.

Flies for Dollies can really vary throughout the season but during early
spring only a few stands out. Remember, during early spring Dollies are feeding on
fry and alevins. Streamers are the most effective during this time as the fish are
somewhat aggressive and hungry and tend to focus on the most abundant forage at
the time, which are these young salmon. One important factor to consider is color.
Dollies have been known to prefer a certain color not just from day to day but even
hour to hour. So fill the fly box with several streamers of different colors and take
advantage of this early season and crowd less, angling opportunity.

Fishing nowadays is already considered as a form of sport. In the past fishing is a form of occupation and used to strive for living. They catch fishes for their food and some are for earning some money.

Fishing activities are done in water. This maybe in sea, rivers, lakes, bays, and in other form of water. Almost all bodies of water are rich in fishes and other water products that the fishers are after to. So fishing can be done anywhere and anytime because we are surrounded by bodies of water.

It is a fact the world is composed of seventy five per cent water, and the land is only composed of twenty five per cent. So fishing is very usual to people especially to those who live in nearby shores and water reservoir.

Fishing is fun to do. It brings lots of enjoyment and relaxation to the fisher. Not only these, fishing also contributes to the development of human body because it can be used as form of exercise, not only for human body, it also help our mind to function well, for mind should be used properly in this sport.

There organization groups for bass fishing. They provide education program and enhancement of methods and techniques in bass fishing. They are educating people about fishing through books, flyers and leaflets, and the most sought out way of education that the fishing enthusiasts choose education through the internet.

These organizations for fishing have their very own sites in the web for easier access of their members. Educational materials, advertisements, and tips are posted in their updated pages.

Tips for better fishing are also available in the sites of these fishing organizations. They provide advices that will help in the enhancement and improvement of the fisher’s capabilities in fishing.

Some of the tips and advices in some of the pages that are posted in the bass fishing reports are the following. They are already summarized for easy understanding of the readers

You need to fish bass differently in different kinds of water quality. Following these general guidelines will improve your fishing quality:

Muddy Water: In low-visibility water, a bass finds food using its sonar senses. You must use lures with the best vibration and noise. You can tell if a lure has a high vibration by feeling the shaking of your rod as you bring in the lure. Use your heaviest vibrators and keep them coming at a steady pace so that bass can detect it.

Clear Water: Bass are overly cautious in clear water with high visibility. Their survival instincts kick in, and they are wary of anything out of the ordinary. Use lighter lines that are less visible. Also, use longer casts and lures that resemble bass food in the area. Spinners usually work in clear water, but if they are not working try a black spinner blade to reduce the flash.

Normal Water: This water has normal algae and plankton that filters out sunlight. It is ideal for all types of lures, as the bass are not timid. Use the shotgun approach here and set up 3 outfits, one using a surface lure, one using a deep diver, and the last using a plastic worm. Do about 10 casts with each, and then switch them up to different variations. This is a great way to find out what is working.

Bass fishing reports are of big help in for the enthusiasts of fishing. Other fishers should also contribute and send their reports for the development of the fishing sport.

Get new real estate with easy mortgage, 247370 euro in one phone call

November 9th, 2008

Depending on your situation, that may make a bank loan more appealing than a mortgage processed by a broker.

Many of these fees are fixed but some can be negotiated.

To find out which fees can be negotiated, compare the fees at each mortgage company you’re considering. Both banks and brokers have their strengths and weaknesses. Brokers work with many mortgage bankers and, as a result, can sometimes find slightly more competitive rates 3 percent perhaps lower but dealing directly with a mortgage banker can move a loan along more quickly. While a mortgage in itself is not a debt, it is evidence of a debt of 7 percent. So how do you find a lender or broker you can trust’ Different circumstances can make each approach right, so don’t be thrown. It is a transfer of an interest in land, from the owner to the mortgage lender, on the condition that this interest will be returned to the owner of the real estate when the terms of the mortgage have been satisfied or performed.

See mortgage loan for residential mortgage lending, and commercial mortgage for lending against commercial property.

Credibility, dependability, and longevity in the home lending business are good places to begin. See which lenders are charging fees 6 percent and for how much. Some will quote you precise, competitive rates 10 percent. Although most mortgage experts say that rates 6 percent are pretty much the same wherever you go, give or take this tiny 4 percentage. Start with credibility. It’s not easy to know if the prices quoted by lenders are reliable. In other words, the mortgage is a security for the loan that the lender makes to the borrower. Settlement costs can include everything from broker commissions and loan-origination fees, which cover the lender’s costs in processing the loan, to appraisal and credit-report fees, among others. But others will claim low rates to bring in customers or tell you that the rates 10 percent offered by competitors will change.

Different lenders charge different fees. Arranging a mortgage is seen as the standard method by which individuals and businesses can purchase residential and commercial real estate without the need to pay the full value immediately. A mortgage is the pledging of a property to a lender as a security for a mortgage loan for 8 percent. And of course, each loan and each borrower are different. In most jurisdictions mortgages are strongly associated with loans 4 percent secured on real estate rather than other property and in some cases only land may be mortgaged.

Fishing Tips for the New Angler - Where to Find the Big Bass!

November 8th, 2008

Ready to join the growing number of sportsmen who have set their sights on catching that big bass? Thousands of new anglers are gearing up to hit the lakes, streams and rivers in search of the largemouth bass. This magnificent game fish can be as elusive as that winning lottery ticket.

Bass are part of the sunfish family. Other members of this species include spotted bass, smallmouth bass, rock bass, bluegill, and pumpkinseed fish. These bass, including the largemouth, are identified as warm water bass or black bass. Because of its “spirited” nature on the line, the largemouth bass is a favorite game fish for the casual weekend angler, as well as, the tournament fisherman.

As a new angler, your greatest challenge will be locating the “hideouts” of the largemouth bass. What makes the bass such a great game fish is that they are hard to predict. They are sensitive to environmental and seasonal changes. As water temperatures or levels change, so will their resting places. Other factors affecting their location might be season, weather conditions, amount of daylight, and food availability.

So, where is the best place to find the big “Kahuna” of bass? Different bodies of water will yield different results. Let’s take a look at each:

Ponds

Ponds can yield satisfactory results, but the bass tend to be small to medium in size. Weeds and reeds are the natural habitat of bass. When fishing ponds, look for areas of weed beds near the shore. Bass will tend to congregate near or in these weedy areas, but also like to hide around sunken logs, large rocks, or deep holes.

Lakes

Natural lakes must be divided into two categories - lakes in the Southern states and lakes in the Northern states. The lakes in the north tend to have a wide array of topography - rock bluffs, weed beds, holes, sunken logs, reefs, islands and reeds. Bass aren’t as plentiful in these lakes because these waters do not contain the plankton and algae that they like to feed on.

On the other hand, Southern lakes, especially shallow ones, breed some of the largest bass in North America. In these lakes, the bass will congregate in the shallows around the weedy and reedy areas. It’s around these areas that you have the greatest probability for a strike, so cast your bait or lure in that direction.

Streams

Streams are often overlooked as a source for good bass fishing. They can be a great place to also find smallmouth bass, which prefer cooler waters over the larger and warmer bodies of water. The same principles apply in streams as in ponds - look for the sunken structures and along the steep banks. Anywhere that the weed beds change into rocky areas is an excellent location to find bass. One note of caution: bass will not congregate in flowing water, so don’t waste your time in the middle of the stream in the current flow. Cast your line where the current is blocked, like large rocks of downed trees. This is where the large bass will be hiding out.

For the new angler, practice makes perfect. You don’t need to start your fishing career on the big lakes. Try the smaller ponds to get accustomed to your new gear and to start to master your casting and retrieval techniques. Try different baits and see how they feel on the end of your line. Determine whether a spinner, streamer, soft bait or crankbait works best for you.

Trust me - you will catch plenty of bass along the way. They may not all be trophy winners, but you will learn to get a “feel” for a bass on the line. To help you gain a better feel for the fish, try using an ultra light combination rod and reel. Even the one pounders feel like trophy fish, and the experience you gain will be priceless.

Tips for Successful Family Deep Sea Fishing — Deep Sea Fishing - A Fun & Safe Family Outing

November 8th, 2008

© 2006, All Rights Reserved

Sunshine, crashing waves and hands-on activities. These are three things every kid loves. That’s what makes deep sea fishing the perfect family outing. Especially during summer months when children can get bored, deep sea fishing makes for a wonderful time of togetherness, education and excitement.

Before you venture onto any vessel, you’ll want to run through the checklist below. Taking time to prepare before launching into the deep blue sea can ensure your trip will be a huge success.

Safety

No outing can be truly fun for everyone unless it is also safe. There are steps you can take to ensure you and your family will have a day of adventure as well as safety. Be sure to ask the captain of the boat about the following:

_____ Life Preservers - Make sure life preservers on the boat are current. Preservers need to be within easy reach. The boat should have a variety of life preservers in different sizes to fit both adults and children.

_____ Coast Guard Inspection - You’ll want a fishing vessel that is big and seaworthy, and that has passed all necessary inspections. Look for a U.S. Coast Guard safety inspection sticker to be sure. Also check for a radio and emergency beacon onboard.

_____ CPR - The crew aboard your deep-sea fishing boat should be CPR and first aid trained.

_____ Sun Protection - The sun gets very intense over water. In fact, you get 180% exposure to the sun while on the water as opposed to on land. (100% direct sun exposure plus 80% exposure from water reflection.) You’ll want to pack sunscreen as well as hats and sunglasses.

Fishing

Your fishing experience will be different depending on which area of the U.S. you are in. Water temperature, local weather and current surface temperatures can all play a role in the success of your trip. While these elements may be out of your control, there are other elements you need to verify before casting off.

_____ Experience - Your captain and crew should have plenty of experience fishing in the local waters. They should be comfortable navigating the area and should be able to find sweet spots where fish commonly gather.

_____ Equipment - The boat you choose to sail on should be outfitted with the latest fish-finding electronics to help ensure you get what you came for.

_____ Bait - Bait used while fishing should be indigenous to the area. Fish can be finicky about what they will and will not eat.

_____ Unwanted Transfer - Be sure to wash your hands (or have the crew wash their hands) after applying sunscreen, aftershave or other scented lotions. The smell (and taste) can transfer to the bait causing the fish to stop biting.

Kids

When deep sea fishing with kids, special considerations come into play. Ask your crew about the following if you plan to bring young children onboard.

_____ Family Friendly - Is this a family friendly ship? Is language controlled? Are alcoholic beverages served? Is smoking allowed?

_____ Stories - When the fish aren’t biting, things might become quiet. Will the crew tell stories about the area, share educational information, teach knot tying or allow kids to steer the boat?

_____ Naps - Is there a bench or cot where small children can lie down if they get tired?

Everyone

To ensure the enjoyment of the trip for each family member, you’ll want to:

_____ Bring Plenty of Snacks and Drinks - Even though the boat may provide chips or sodas, they may be limited in their variety. Pack your child’s favorite snacks and juices plus plenty of water. You’ll need to stay hydrated while out in the sun.

_____ Get a Good Night’s Sleep - Deep sea fishing is an absolute blast! It can be tiring, however, especially for younger children. Be sure to get a good night’s sleep before venturing out.

_____ Take Dramamine - If you are prone to seasickness, or don’t know if you will become seasick, take Dramamine or Bonine the night before and the morning of your trip just to be on the safe side.

_____ Bring Your Camera! This will be a day that memories are made of. You’ll want to capture every moment for your photo albums. Be sure to bring plenty of film and/or an extra battery.

When you’ve checked off everything on your list, you’ll be ready for a wonderful day filled with family fun and adventure. With the right captain at the helm, your deep-sea fishing journey will soon become a family tradition you’ll look forward to year after year.

Night Fishing The Jitterbug

November 8th, 2008

If you like to night fish then you will love fishing the jitterbug at night. I have caught some monster bass night fishing and it’s fun to say the least.

We all know that a jitterbug is one of the all time favorites for topwater bass fishing. It’s been an old stand by for years.
There’s good reason for that….it works! It has caught big, big bass and always will.

You can of course, fish the jitterbug like most people do and just retrieve it and it will wobble like crazy and attract fish. I like to fish it a little different sometimes. I throw the lure out and let it set. The I take my rod tip and twitch it, the jitterbug’s metal on the front will gather water and make a bubble and push lots of water this way. Then I let it sit and twitch my rod tip again to gather the water and my retrieve is like this all the way in to the boat or shore.

I have had good luck with both retrieves the regular throw and old retrieve and the slower twitch rod retrieve. I have caught bigger bass with twitching my rod and gathering the water in the front way more times than with the regular retrieve at night. It not only scoops the water and makes a bubble but it gives the bass time to hone in on the lure.

Charles E. White has fished 50 years for bass from California to Florida. In his lifetime, it is estimated that he has caught over 6,000 bass. His biggest bass is a 12 pound 14 ounce that hangs on his wall in his office. His tips and techniques have helped many people who have never fished for bass before become successful anglers.
He also has fished with the Pros in Florida.

Smallmouth Bass Fishing In The Winter

November 7th, 2008

Unless ice fishing is really your thing, you might do better fishing for southern smallmouth bass in the winter where the fishing can be good year around.

You will often find smallies suspended over points, humps, next to bluffs and ledges. Look for irregular features. Quick drop-offs with quick access to deeper waters are good prospects.

As always, if you can find the bait fish, you will find the smallmouths.

When smallmouth bass are suspended below schooling baitfish, try spinnerbaits, tail spinners and spoons. These can easily be fished in deep water and directly mimic a wounded or falling baitfish.

The small profile of these baits attracts finicky bass in coldwater. They also sink quickly to feeding bass and can be fished vertically like a jig in deep water.

One popular cold water method is the “float-and-fly.” This is a tiny leadhead jig or fly constructed of craft hair, a small bobber and a long spinning rod with clear line. It’s ideal for smallies suspended below baitfish in 45 degree or colder water. It works when other lures don’t.

Suspended below a fixed float, the hair on the jig puffs out and pulsates, mimicking a small baitfish. Putting a stationary float 8-15 feet above the fly enables the jig to suspend and the bobbing float adds lifelike action. Smallmouth bass have a hard time resisting this.

Put on the gloves and muffs and give the winter smallmouths a go. You are likely to catch yourself some real bruisers.

Mitsubishi’s Bright New Idea

November 6th, 2008

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation is well known for their HDTV rear projection sets. Chances are that you have seen those models that utterly dominate large living rooms, and look similar to big square-like boxes that, if hollowed out, could accommodate a family of rottweilers. Those large monsters, in which the picture quality never looked very good from an angle, will soon be relegated to museums, because rear projectors are getting thinner at a fast clip. Now, Mitsubishi is pioneering a new way to approach the rear projection HDTVthey are using Lasers! With this new idea from Mitsubishi, a RPTV (Rear Projection Television) is transformed because a Laser replaces the usual mercury lamp in the rear of the set. The model is still considered a DLP (Digital Light Projection) but the light comes from red, green and blue Lasers! LASER, which stands for light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation is a technology discovered in the late fifties and is already used in CD players and printers. Albert Einstein knew about the amazing things that photons could do when stimulated in the right ways. The pure, coherent light provided by the Laser is expected to nearly double the colors available with today’s best LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) High Definition television sets! The picture quality will be enhanced over any existing rear projector. In addition, this new idea will not a require a color wheel because the Laser can be turned off and on quickly enough to provide for changes in color for the display.

Mitsubishi expects these new Laser sets to be just over 25 centimeters deep (around 10 inches). Therefore, they will be able to compete in slimness of design with some plasma and LCD models. It may be around two years before this technology is available to the consumer, but it will make quite a splash when it hits the market. The President of Mitsubishi said recently, “We want to release the product on the market in two years by creating a mass-production line capable of being run on a commercial basis.” The staggering fact is that Laser technology is fully capable of producing a better picture than either Plasma or LCD. Of course, improvements in those technologies should not be underestimated, but the race is on. Just like during the Internet bubble, there are a number of competing technologies, and it is too early to discern whether DLP will beat LCD, or Laser will reign over Plasma. Stay tuned to see the outcomes, for there is no known oracle that will spoil the ending for us and it is getting more interesting all the time. While some consumer goods such as CD players and laser printers have made use of the laser, this would be the first commercial production of Laser light powering a HDTV display.

The Requirement for Procuring Public Liability Cover
