World Squash Federation Denies Plans to File Legal Action against IOC
The World Squash Federation (WSF) suddenly got the spotlight after rumors surfaced that the officials of the organization are considering filing a legal action against the International Olympic Committee following the latter’s decision not to include the racquet sport in the 2012 Olympics which London will be hosting.
Local media reported that the organization is stunned when squash and karate were not included for the upcoming Olympic Games even though the sport got enough votes in the preliminary voting period. In the first round of voting, softball and baseball were rejected to become part of the Olympic Games.
Back then, the squash officials believe that the second secret balloting of votes conducted by the IOC can be voided by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne if any legal case was filed.
The WSF wrote a letter to England Squash stating that despite some doubts aired on the move made by the IOC, there’s never an instance where the officials considering filing a legal action since it is looking for more counter-productive measures rather than causing trouble.
The decision not to include squash was made in Singapore four years ago. The decision stated that replacement sports could not be accepted for the 2012 Olympic Games.
The WSF officials stressed that the issue is already past then and that they are now working hard to make sure that the sport will included in the 2016 Games in which Rio de Janeiro will be hosting.
